Wood-fired "Boat Eye" Necklace
Each ceramic piece has unique color variations due to the natural clay and firing process, so it may look different from the photo.
The "Boat Eye" is the most iconic symbol of the Tao (or Yami) people of Taiwan. Traditionally carved on both sides of their wooden fishing boats, known as “tatala,” this symbol serves to ward off evil, protect voyagers, and guide their path. The design radiates outward from a central circle, resembling sun rays that illuminate the ocean route, ensuring the tribe members return home safely.
Living in this vast world is like a boat drifting across the boundless ocean. For younger generations who no longer build boats, wearing the "Boat Eye" as a tattoo or a necklace has become a modern way to carry this ancient symbol. It serves as a personal compass, offering clarity and guidance through life’s journey, helping one stay grounded amidst uncertainty.
This necklace embodies not just an ancient cultural artifact, but also a symbol of resilience, protection, and direction—an anchor to one’s roots and a reminder of the strength needed to navigate life's vast, uncharted waters.
